Momentum Manufacturing Group Expands Machining Capabilities to Support Semiconductor Industry
Momentum Manufacturing Group (MMG), one of North America’s top ten largest metal manufacturers, announced it has purchased a DMG MORI DMC 210 U to expand its 5-axis machining capabilities. The state-of-the-art machine, in use at the company’s Topsfield, MA, location, will support precision metal machining of large parts for the semiconductor and medical device industries.
“Demand continues to grow among new and existing customers in the semiconductor and medical device industries for precision machining and fabrication of large parts,” said John Brocke, President of MMG’s technology division. “The addition of the DMC 210 U enables us to meet this demand with greater efficiency and quality and enhances our existing large-part machining capabilities.”
With its large work envelope (98.4” x 98.4” x 57.5”) and ability to handle components up to 13,228 lbs., the DMC 210 U is ideal for cost-effectively machining large format parts, such as those found in mobile MRIs and next-generation vacuum chambers. In addition, the machine – one of only three currently in use in the Northeast – offers the following:
- Widest spindle range on the market with milling and turning in one setup
- Automated 5-pallet changing system for production needs
- 183 tool magazine enabling lights-out, unattended machining
- Capability to machine stainless steel, aluminum, steel, and other alloys
The purchase continues the company’s commitment to invest in new technologies for greater efficiency and quality.
“We are committed to helping our customers reduce their production costs and time to market while improving overall product quality and consistency,” noted Brocke. “Investing in advanced manufacturing technologies, like the DMC 210 U, helps us deliver on that commitment.”
MMG has invested over $50 million in new equipment in the last five years to advance its manufacturing business. The company maintains an extensive manufacturing infrastructure in thirteen facilities across Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont providing a broad range of metal fabrication, precision machining, aluminum extrusion manufacturing, surface finishing, and assembly services.
